Dear Friends,

On behalf of all the residents of Alamos, we warmly welcome you to one of the most beautiful Colonial towns in all of Mexico. The very fact that you have chosen to become property owners in this National Historic Monument tells us that you admire and appreciate the qualities of life that keep Alamos special and close to the hearts of all who live here.

Chief among those qualities, of course, are the historic visual aspects that undoubtedly attracted you in the first place. We are confident that you share our goal of preserving the architectural integrity of Alamos, in perlpheral barrios as well as in the more regulated central area.

We have found it particularly interesting that traditions vary from barrio to barrio. Certain exterior architectural elements (the differing designs of cornices or columns, for example) are centuries-old standards within particular neighborhoods. So whether you are planning to build a new house or to restore an exterior facade, the exciting start to the adventure will be researching the history of your property. To preserve its visual integrity is neither costly nor difficult, yet it will have a long-lasting positive impact on Alamos.

The city is eager to work with you, as are we. When you take your building plans or proposed changes to the Director of Public Works on the second floor of the Municipal Palace (Palacio), you'll find a cordial reception and appropriate and historically accurate guidelines for your project.
